Why use a celebrant?

What I like about the role of Celebrant is that it allows me to include words that speak of your faith or design a completely secular service for you. These special occasions are among the most important days of our lives, and it is my pleasure to play my part in bringing your vision for that day to life. A Celebrant has a unique offering, being able to speak at both spiritual and non-religious events or to provide a mix of both to meet your wishes for life's most important occasions.

Celebrant services throughout Scotland

Alison Calder providers a range of celebrant and public speaking services around Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Scotland.

Wedding celebrant

We will work closely together to bring your vision for your dream day to life. I will become acquainted with you both to allow me to create a script to paint a picture for your friends and family of how you met and your journey together that led you to tie the knot. Your day will be as unique as you are.

Funeral celebrant

When a family loses a loved one, it is, of course, a challenging time. When I meet with you, I aim to be comforting and supportive to allow you to share the memories of your loved one. I collect the relevant information to script a poignant story, incorporating a witty anecdote if the family feels this is appropriate.

Naming ceremony

A naming ceremony is non-religious and allows parents an occasion to meet with friends and family in order to share in public their love and commitment for the child. I will work together with you to create a perfect ceremony with whatever music, promises and poetry you would like, a joyous and special day for you and all who attend.

Public speaking & other services

I am used to speaking at Burns Suppers, Women's Guilds, Rurals and Rotary Clubs. I have also, in a voluntary capacity, gone into schools to help primary and secondary school children with their marketing projects. Whether it be a small gathering or a very large event, if you require a speaker I would be happy to discuss this with you. I carry out public speaking on a broad variety of occasions.

Questions people frequently ask a celebrant.

Here are some questions that I often get asked which may be useful to you.

Home: FAQ

"How far do you travel to carry out services"

Distance is really no object, including travelling abroad to carry out services which I have been happy to do before. I charge the same fee for the speaking, but add reasonable travel expense to this, which would include an overnight stay if nessesary.

"Will I get to approve the speech beforehand"

After our meeting together I create a script which I send to you, normally within 48 hours. At that point I ask for any amendments that you may wish me to make. I will then send the revised copy for your final approval.

"Can my service include religious elements"

The unique offering that celebrants provide allows me to incorporate your beliefs and faith into the service, as much as you would like. Some clients want a very spiritual ceremony and others require a mixture of this with secular elements.
